I Saved a Slug
On my morning walk
Birds sang
Death is never far removed
Summer has come upon the mountain
Today is hot and humid
Walking
Walking and climbing
Climbing
Walking
As the pavement was getting hotter
I came upon a slug
A slow slimy slinking slug
I do not like slugs
As I walked by, I said,
“Hey, slug.
You are heading for undoubtful death.
The sun is strong,
The pavement is parched,
You will surely die.”
I was about to walk on
But something or someone happened in my space
Who knows?
God maybe?
I bent and picked up the slimy thing
I returned it to the shade
Into the dew-dampened grass
Under the forest canopy
I saved a slimy slithering slug from certain death
I still do not like slugs
But I think this one will love me
Ha!
Little events
Small things
Who knows what it may all mean?

When that happens I am glad whatever it is still talks to me.
And nice to know I'm not the only one.
