Halloween Haiku (2022)

misty evening

ghosts and witches fly about

it is Halloween

black cats and goblins

zombies, werewolves, and vampires

are part of the mix

it’s an eerie night

owls hoot from deep dark woods

in skeleton trees

a full moon rises

awakening dark shadows

that somehow whisper

the glow of the moon

seems to awaken the souls

of the departed

bats fly from their cave

filling the air with shrill shrieks

of battish delight

down in the hollow

a cauldron over a fire

simmers a strange brew

witches congregate

sharing recipes and spells

and potent potions

deep into the night

shrieks of laughter tear the air

as beldams frolic

jack-o-lanterns glow

on decorated porches

drawing children nigh

there’s a thrill of fear

not in the least unpleasant

stirring the spirit

be smart and be safe

enjoy magical moments
