Poem Artwork

Old house

Once upon a time
A home
To hopeful would-be pioneers

Now
Empty
Abandoned
Grey
Weather-bleached boards
Sagging roof

Is it voices from long ago
I hear
From the dark within?

Or is it the wind
Moaning
Through empty window frames
As it passes
On its way
To desolate prairie?

Beyond
Memories

The house seems so very sad Regis, as its souls cries from yesteryear! Pleading restoration before desolation from the wind! I really like this poem. Thank you! Peace!!

Those wonderful pioneer women = some didn't have much but a grass or sod house, not a wooden one til later when they got settled better - I know cause I read a book about it, was amazed, but these woman made a home wherever they resided in the West, or I should say settled, and made the most of it. they abandoned their families, came West, and some never made it and lots survived, or we wouldn't of had any old abandoned buildings like this. Sort of a mixed review with my thoughts.

Old houses have such magnetic energy. I get a feeling of sorrow when I look at this house. Powerful write. Looks like this scary house I would pass by on my street when I was a kid.

ooh old houses. Sometimes you can sense what was there before in an old house, maybe a lingering spirit or sometimes materials of the house can actually record the vibes from the past. :) Nice write.

Wonderful images. Evokes emotions of a time and place long gone yet never forgotten because the past still speaks if we only will hear.

..outstanding line!..I love anything to do with past imprints on ancient walls..and YES!..One can sense the energies of souls that once inhabited old houses etc. I live in Croatia and I must say there is sooo much history here..I make it a point to visit a new castle or some historic place whenever I get the chance...I can tell you some places scream into one's inner ear..it's rather fascinating though my husband doesn't think so..he feels SPOOKED!..LOL..
Remarkable write Regis...words well chosen..

I like old houses. They have a life of their own, as if no one ever really leaves them. I like this poem and picture. I do black and white photography -- fascinating art form.

Excellent- Old Houses Do Talk If You Listen_

Born Raised in Old House Back East,i.e. As Child I Always Heard Voices In Basement, Told My Mother,She'd Said Don't Listen To Them, They're Voices Of Dead_ Not All Voices From Other Side Are Evil_

Strangely -If I Did Listen To Them, They Were Trying To Help Me,I'd Listened I'd Be That Much Further Ahead!
