Poem Artwork

When I was a child
Innocence protected me
From reality

When I was a child
I found many a marvel
In simplicity

When I was a child
A new day was adventure
And the world was mine

When I was a child
My soul soared and I felt free
I did not worry

When I was a child
I believed that dreams come true
And wishes as well

When I was a child
I wanted to be grown up
In the world of men

Now I am grown up
I wish that I were a child
Somewhere in heaven

I can relate very well to this one. At age 9 I wanted to stay there forever, remembering walking down our back yard to a rose bush and saying I want to stay nine, in a way, I think I've accomplished that in some ways. As for somewhere in heaven, I tried that and it wasn't my time, I was a very lucky person in that one way.

What you express in this poem is so true. As kids we don't really have anything to worry about and we are carefree. When we grow up there are all these problems we have to deal with, all these things we have to worry about that sometimes we wish we were kids again. At least that is the case with me time and again. Things are much easier, much simpler when we are kids. Wish it was that way throughout our entire lives. Thanks for sharing this poem. I am sure everyone can relate to it in one way or another.

I THINK WE ALL CAN RELATE TO WANTING TO BE 'GROWN UP' WHEN WE WERE CHILDREN...WE'D LIE ABOUT OUR AGE AND TELL SOMEONE WE WERE OLDER THAN WE REALLY WERE...BUT NOW? WELL, I DON'T KNOW ABOUT HEAVEN, BUT I SURE WISH I COULD GO BACK WITH THE WISDOM THAT I HAVE NOW ACQUIRED...BOY! WOULD THERE BE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN HOW I LIVED MY LIFE! GREAT 'THOUGHT PROVOKER'...SO ENJOYED. THANKS FOR SHARING, LOVE AND BLESSINGS, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS.

A bit ironic, isn't it? So true! The grass is always greener.... If you tell a child to appreciate the simplicity of their life, they think you're crazy because they want to be grown up. Greatly realistic, Regis!

When I was a child...glad I don't recall those turbulent times of pain, but it sounds as if your childhood was much better and I can tell by the picture, your children are having a wonderful childhood with an intelligent Dad to guide them through to their adult years.
Keep them close, Regis, don't let them out into the world, they are not children forever...Peace, Ed & rufuz

Unto the Soul Child, Regis,

Thou hast cast memories upon the water’s mirror to which I found joy within thy words. What a marvel be thy collection of Haiku! Tis always a great pleasure to set eyes upon thy writings. I hast missed them much.

This is great Regis, I really enjoyed reading this. As I read the little boy in me was laughing. The little guy loves to play, he has really made my life great. Our bodies grow up, but sometimes that's about it. When I'm a hundred years old, the little boy inside me will barely be 10. As far as heaven goes, children seem to find heaven on earth, and wish for the real thing. It's so disappointing when a child grows up and faces hell on earth. You figure it, take care G

Innocence of childhood, well expressed, do we ever grow up or just use the toy's for raing the earth, and murdering, slaughtering those who can't fight back..are the fools wise and the wise fools?

My friend, life is an irreversible process in which cells die out of atrophication. But as indicated in your last verse of the poem, you can restart as a child in the life hereafter and in heaven if god allows you to do that.
