When the wind blows
through the eves
and the hours are cold and dark
Bittersweet is the fear I taste
as it lingers about
clinched to my fingertips
like a slippery rock.
Have I sold you
to the man I wish to be
and left you
to the man I am?
I held you tightly
and touched the flowers
adorned in your hair
and kissed you into me
taking you in
like wine to a chalice
in a small country chapel.
