The Past

She stood in the snow
her hands in pockets.
Her breath
hid the blank expression
on her face.

My past,
catching up
with the rest of the world.

In a single night
a life was born
to touch the world
with eyes like mine.

Her eyes, her face
long golden hair,
it was me who knew
and her that grew.

Surrounded
by the grace
of my two children,
snow angels
stretched out
on the front lawn
around me.

Twenty years
of hidden fears
brought her
to a solemn past.

What could I say
on this cold wintry day?
