But...my what a powerful word

it cancels out what went before it,

like I was going to give you a million pounds,

But... I won't so now you can ignore it,

Or, that dress that you're wearing, it fits like a glove,

your choice of attire was just right,

But... maybe they colour's a little too bland

and perhaps it's a little too tight,

Yes, But... is a word that can cut down a foe,

or a friend in the space of three letters,

of course there are other words that you could substitute,

But... believe me, there's none do it better,

What a wonderful party you hosted last week,

just as lavish as are thrown by the Trumps,

But... Oh what a pity that half of your guests

had to go and have their stomachs pumped,

Of course I'm not inferring that you were to blame

for your elderly neighbours demise,

But... you know what they say, there's no smoke without fire

so if you had been I'd not be surprised,

Oh now look at your daughter, so beautifully grown,

she'll break all the hearts of the men,

But... I dread to mention the size of her ears,

how Dumbo would have coveted them,

Oh thank you, Oh thank you, for what you just said,

 about liking my poem so much,

although the look on your face tells me you're not impressed,

and I should patiently wait for the,

But..............
