A Fictional Tale... (Honest).

I woke up this morning
and started packing my things,
wondering why the world turns,
why the robin still sings,

Did nobody tell them,
I'm leaving today?
did they not get the memo?
my world's fading away.

I would have thought they'd have noticed,
because of my pride,
the love she had for me
has withered and died.

So I can't believe the sun rose
in the sky once again,
and the grass seems to grow,
as though nothing has changed.

I wish I could tell them
how much I regret,
the sorrow I've caused
that she cannot forget,

I wish I could say
how I'm feeling inside,
but I can't ask forgiveness
I have far too much pride.

Though I want to say sorry,
and I honestly try,
I can't form the words,
curse my foolish pride,

and the pain in my eyes
comes out as contempt,
everyone should be happiness
though it seems I'm exempt,

And the world through my window
goes on with its plan,
of endless renewal
and I can't understand,

How all that I need
can slip out of my grasp,
as my pride takes control
as it has in the past,

And I say, "You're not my keeper,
I'll do as I please",
and shrug as she cries
and asks me to leave.

Though it's breaking my heart
as those tears leave her eyes,
I can't say, "I'm sorry",
I have far too much pride,

Though I know I am losing
my reason to live,
and one word of attrition,
would cause her to forgive,

Instead I force a half smile,
and quietly pack,
knowing this time
she will not take me back.

and my world is in ruins,
all my bridges are burned,
yet the wind keeps on blowing,
and the planet still turns.
