Temptation
He's never cheated, never could,
been married twenty years and would
never do a thing to hurt is wife.
Ok that woman sitting at the bar
is the prettiest one in here by far,
and perhaps the best he's seen in his whole life.
But he tells himself, it would not be right,
though his left hand is in his pocket, out of sight,
just in case she sees his wedding ring.
He thinks, I could just ask her for a dance,
then thinks, No, I wouldn't stand a chance,
besides, I shouldn't be thinking such a thing.
Until now he's always walked the line,
never strayed one single time,
No never stepped a foot from off the path,
and if you had said to him back then,
"One day you'll cheat your wife my friend",
he would have said to you, "Don't make me laugh".
Ok he'll fantasize, as most men do,
but he'd never really see it through,
he loves his wife and children far too much,
anyway he's convinced that she,
would not look twice at such as he,
let alone get close enough to touch.
With her shapely figure and sensual voice
she could have the fellow of her choice,
and wouldn't he just be a lucky man.
but what our friend don't realize
is that there behind her bright green eyes
she has already formed herself a plan.
She has already seen his wedding band,
noticed it upon his hand,
but that's part of the attraction for her kind,
though she looks like butter wouldn't melt,
she's just out to enjoy herself,
with any married man that she can find.
And tonight she's set her eyes on him,
it isn't love, it's just a whim,
a way for her to spend a pleasant night,
and if his wife finds out, well that's a shame,
but it won't be her that gets the blame
and she cares little if his wife and he should fight.
Her plan is one she'd used before,
she pretends not to watch him cross the floor,
and undoes another button on her blouse,
with patient guile she sips her drink,
any moment now, she thinks,
before the trap is sprung, as on a mouse.
He moves towards her, unaware,
and as he passes she moves out her chair,
making sure to hit him as she moves.
"Oh I appologize", she says sincere,
"I didn't even see you there,
I hope that isn't going to leave a bruise".
He smiles and says, "There's no harm done,
I should appologize, if anyone,
I wasn't really looking where I went",
She says, "Well at least let me make amends",
she asks his name, he tells her Ben,
"But it's quite alright, it's just an accident".
He knows that he should walk away,
make his excusses and not stay,
but something makes him want to talk awhile.
perhaps the skirt split to the thigh,
the low cut blouse, the bright green eyes,
Long auburn hair, or just her pretty smile.
But the ice is broke, she gives a smile
knowing he will be beguiled
by the innocents that she portrays,
But there's a certain twinkle in her eye,
as her move reveals a flash of thigh,
and the cleavage that her low cut blouse displays.
The time goes by at quite a pace
his eyes have seldom left her face,
except to wander where most mens eyes might,
he can not believe her interest
in every single thing he says,
so he stays to talk though he knows it isn't right,
Eventually their small talk comes around to sex,
and he wonders where it's going next,
but he's flattered and he doesn't want to leave,
this woman is a real sex bomb,
he has no idea where she's from,
but more excitment he could not concieve,
She tempts him and he wants to hold her,
but there was an Angel and Devil on his shoulder,
and the Angel say, "What about your wife at home?"
Then the Devil says, "Don't be a fool,
you can see she's got the hots for you,
and your wife at home is never going to know",
And as the Angel and Devil slug it out
this woman smiles at him and pouts,
and slowly strokes the inside of his thigh,
he pulls away and grabs her hand,
she smiles but she don't understand,
and puts it down to him just being shy.
So she gives him her most sultry look
the one that's got so many hooked,
and suggest they find somewhere to be alone,
a hotel room would be ideal,
a glass of bubbly, a midnight meal,
and a night of love like you have never known.
She leans forward and her blouse hangs loose,
"Come on", she whispers, "just me and you",
and the Devil shouts, "What are you waiting for?"
"get in there man, are you insane?
this chance will never come again,
she's beautifull, how could you want for more?"
But there's something still that makes him linger,
it's that wedding ring upon his finger,
which seems to tighten every time he weakens,
his life is in the hands of fate,
and all that he can do is wait,
until his Devil, or his Angel have been beaten.
She knows lust has got the upper hand,
and things are going as she planned.
and she thinks, "You're mine, there's no escaping now",
but the Angel whispers in his ear,
"Remember Ben, it's twenty years,
since the day you gave your wedding vow",
"Are we going then?" she whispers low,
amazed to hear him answer, "No,
I'm married and I should be getting home",
then he quickly rises from his chair,
and leaves the woman sitting there,
surprized to find, she's sitting there alone.
The smile she wore has disappeared,
and for a moment she looks close to tears,
but she knows so little of the night remains,
so she looks around at every man,
and sees another golden band,
and prepares herself once more to play her game.
as for our friend, he passes a flower shop,
and cannot help himself, but stop,
to buy his wife some flowers, on his way,
When he returns, there's lovelight in her eyes,
and her face lights up with shear surprize
as he hides his guilt behind a big bouqet.

Your poem describes the struggle very well. I'm sure this struggle causes divorces quite often.
As for me I would ask you, "Where can I find that girl?" But, since I've never worn a wedding band, she probably wouldn't be interested.
Ron
The length was not a problem. Your hook did the job.
much love

Love ya!
