For weeks I wondered what to do,
Should I go for revenge?
After all the things they did,
Should someone not do it to them?
But I am not a killer,
I don’t even own a gun,
And I’ve no right to take another’s life,
No matter what they’ve done.
And that’s how I would have left it,
If my brother had not rang,
And said his wife had been assaulted,
By a local skinhead gang,
He said they hadn’t really hurt her,
But threatened what they’d do,
If she didn’t give them my address,
And my phone number too.
When she did they stopped molesting her,
This gang of skinhead boys,
And said they’d pass her message on,
To a man named Frank Denoy,
I knew then, it wasn’t over,
They’d traced my family,
Their lives would be in danger now,
And all because of me,
And that’s why I bought the pistol,
An old luger from the war,
But I had to learn to use it,
I’d never fired a gun before,
So I joined a pistol shooting club,
Where I learnt to shoot quite well,
Would I ever need the skill?
I had no way to tell.
But at least now I was ready,
For whatever lay in store,
I knew Denoy would come to kill me,
But how or when, I wasn’t sure.
His next attempt came pretty quickly,
With a petrol bomb through my window,
I’d been expecting something like it,
So of course I wasn’t home.
I’d moved into a small motel
But told no-one where I’d gone,
Thinking Denoy would never find me,
But I learnt too late that I was wrong.
For soon after I got a phone-call,
And as we spoke to one another,
Denoy said that I should meet him,
If I’d like to save my brother,
I was to meet him at a multi-story car park
Close to town,
And if I didn’t come alone,
He’d gladly shoot my brother down.
I knew I couldn’t trust him,
But I had little choice,
And though terrified, next morning,
I went to meet there, with Denoy.
