This poem is more difficult to share than it was to write. The Lord, when He was a physical presence on earth, reached out to those of low estate. I was one of those kids in high school and I wonder how myself and the rest of His modern followers would react if He were a physical presence at a modern high school and sat down with people like Harris and Klebold before that dark day at Columbine

Suppose Jesus had lunch

with the Trench Coat Mafia?

I wonder, what would we do?


Would we look on in disgust?

Would we no longer trust?

Would we say, "how uncool"?


That the Friend of the girl

who said yes would have lunch

with the spooks, the nerds,

The geeks, the freaks,

the publicans and sinners too.

What would make Him think

that these folks would need

God's love too?


And what would we think if

after listening to Rush,

His words would not

"Mega-dittoes" include?


We're redeemed and forgiven,

Saved and converted,

But our clout makes one wonder,

Have we become pharisees too?
