If your childhood was rubbish, the damage that it can leave you with can affect you into the rest of your life. Try to love the child within you.

Poem Artwork

                               When I look back

to my life as a child

it only brings tears

thoughts running wild,

me filled with sadness

anger inside

too many chapters

that make me

want to hide.

Leave me alone

with my broken past

that non-existent childhood

that I never had,

what do you do

when no one has the glue

that love to stick it all together

never was there for you.

Why should I remember

what I never had

there is nothing there

yet it keeps

coming back,

years pass you fight and flight

yet that mold has you trapped

makes you angry inside.

Saw things that hurt

even now when I look back

I am filled with upset

though it is sixty years

in the past,

why did I become

a father stained with no childhood

it taught me sod all

except anger and pain.

So you learn the hard way

maybe too late

you cannot run away

at least not until

you wake up,

no more passing it around

even if it was way back then

accept it reject it

wipe it away

hug your child from yesterday.

Wipe his tears

that kid of thirteen

almost broken

hug him

now move on..

Dedicated to anyone who had a rubbish childhood.

Yes, John we carry around what our parents did or didn't do and then one day you finally realize it is time to forgive and grow..

Always,
Deborah

I don't know of anyone, myself included, who can say they had a happy childhood, and i'm sure my kids will say the same thing, and that's sad. Childhood has to be the most painful part of our lives, and I would never want to go through it again.

It seems that many poets here have had bad experiences as a child. By comparison, my childhood was idyllic with a young beautiful mother and my handsome hard-working father. I was never alone with my twin brother is a constant companion.

I never had children although I like them very much, so it's difficult for me to say what kind of father I would have been. I think a firm but kind one and more involved and generous than my father was.

Poetry like yours certainly helps the healing process that allows you away to express your anguish and your coming to grips with how you responded in adult life.

I would only hope that goes here that have had bad experiences that they do poetry about would move on after a while and write poetry about more uplifting things.

Your poetry is outstanding today, I feel every word, we all have a past dear John, and some of us had to work at the healing phase with blood and sweat, still, we're standing, that tells us we are warriors having an earthly experience, I feel proud of you, even if we didn't meet, it takes great courage to embrace your inner child, well done x

It's painful to think of my childhood with my dad. He was angry and took much of it out on me. He literally kicked my ass. Still, the words did the most damage, hurt and pain. If it were not for my mother, I would have gone insane! Still, I had to forgive him for the past or that memory would be the devil himself still reminding me and kicking me in the ass. Write all your regrets down, pray for forgiveness for anyone who hurt you then burn it to the grown. Amen
