As a child, how you love the summer, the plans for those trips to the coast. Those sandwiches, snacks and cold drinks, maybe an ice cream or two.

Poem Artwork

Beneath a duvet of cloud

life stirs

the morning human thing

begins.

Out streached arms legs

yawns

then out of bed

to the scrapping on toast

of butter

whatever it does not matter.

Cereal dances with milk

the Cat miaows

wants to go out

but changes its mind

under the duvet of clouds.

The forecast promised

sunshine ahead

this blanket above

makes you shake your head.

A day at the beach

that was the plan

so sandwiches are prepared

as the children run around

filling their bags

with things tey need

delight in their eyes

as soon you all leave.

Off to the coast

even the Sun peeks through

amazing what positive thoughts

can do.

Then fine gritty sand

shakes hands

with your feet

waves roll in

then wave bye again.

Gulls above

excitedly swoop

anxious to spie

on what goodies have been bought,

such pleasent things

surround your day

even as the Sun dips

you all want to stay.

Soon you head home

before it is dark,

the children rest

happy under a duvet

fall asleep fast.

You put away

the things of the day

you smile to yourself

look out of your window,

no duvet in the sky

the Moon is bright

pull the curtains

say good night..
