a perfect orchid

Poem Artwork

~a perfect orchid~

i picked an orchid
an anther... picked

searched its crevasse
turned it upside down.

tended its filaments
to view that pistil.

wooed and venerated
a savored bouquet.

drank in all the
carpel nectar.

purified its drink...
positioned it delicately

within my  ... well-etched
hand blown ... lead crystal vase


that buttercup had forgotten.

inflorescence aside,
calyx features discarded

amidst venerable petals,
it blossomed ... atop my lace doily.

later
....it turned color

later
...it crumpled

later
...if fell to pieces

A great inception and its ineluctable demise. How beauty or anything will come to fruition and go to dust. I love your indulgence of the whole event--almost like it only lasted a day, or even a magical glimpse of much less time passed by. Thanks for sharing.

these are truly such unique and beautiful of flowers...they are like a miracle of what God seemingly gives us without trying.

Donna, from such sensitive handling of the pistil wooed and venerated to the savored bouquet of the carpel nectar, I read with admiration the precision, the diction, of the poetic language that gives such life and beauty and presence to this treasured orchid. -gene.
