If I Were A Bugle

I'd like to be of brass and worn
A bugle sweet and pure
For when I blew my shiny horn
All would bow for sure

The world would rise at reveille
As the day of work began
But when I sounded my retreat
Deep sleep would quell the land

When brave and loyal soldiers passed
At their repose I'd play
The sound of taps would grace the land
To send them on their way

In the end, when judgement came
Upon a cloud so white
I'd sound the call for all to kneel
When Our Lord came to sight.

"In the end, when judgement came

These lines set your poem head and shoulders above all the rest.

God Bless America and the troops that defended her!

Amen!

Such an honor you have bestowed on a simple bugle. If each of us could only share in that humbleness what a wonderful world this would be.

God bless you. Kathy

Dear Paul,

This is so beautiful. You're right, a bugle signifies many things when it sounds. Can be merriment, celebration, announcement of things coming and are at hand, and yes, even death. Enjoyed. It's good to be back and read your works again, Paul.

Blessings to you,
Sheri

Blow that bugle Paul, and be the one to deliver music to our ears. The joyous music of all is the heralding of our Lord who has come to judge the mighty and the meek. Thank you for sharing this delightful poem.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie

Paul,
What strikes me about this poem the most is the support you offer the soldiers, even as a bugle. You're behind them; you were them. A beautiful tribute to your experiences.

Yes, for certain sure, it is the bugle of all instruments that quickens in our spirits and we have an automatic reflex to hearken to its call. This poem speaks like the voice of the prophet, the early warning system to the people, calling for a response. A beautiful aspiration and a wonderful analogy. You have a bugle heart, Paul! :)) xx
