I Gotta Eat More Lead

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Friday, January 17, 2014

I need to eat more lead –
Gotta chew and grind, gotta
Break more teeth; already done!
To write a poem.
Jeepers, Creepers, already hung… about.
About a time when lead was poison, but,
Ink was not. I’ve always been protected by
Pencil leads.
And paper.
And ink. Abstained. Absinthed.
Alone again, ho… So, I pillow it all,
Into my dreams, those steamy plot-panicked
Passages of righteous themes! I am
Paper! Bright and white! I soak up
Lead! Ink, not so much. I am
The end of days.

Enjoyed the poem but, not the lead!

Always,

Did you notice how quickly Ron stopped writing? But seriously...tis better to eat lead from a pencil than from a gun. Fun write! Clever and witty.

Paper has absorbed more poison than we will ever know. It's a good thing that pencils are made with graphite and not lead because many people seem to have to suck on the end of their pencil before they have an idea to write. Think about it, if pencil tips for those folks were truly lead, by that little act of mindless toying, their brains would gradually become so dead as not to have any thoughts at all.
