Baby New Beautiful Year

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Sunday, November 27, 2022

Yay, 2022, you beautiful, precious baby,
welcome to this world of extreme proliferation!
Please be kind to us as we travel
your span-handled days! Reteach us wisdom
without alienation. Greet our propensities
without unfounded praise! Undo the
tightened screws of wherewithal ways!

We are excited, nay, giddy with renewed
expectations of happy occupation of our
placement in Time! Thank you for your
innocent countenance and acceptance of
frazzled motes of consciousness just
trying to scrape by, with humility, under
the ever expanding wings of Life!

Oh beautiful Year! I'm afraid I fear
quick months with their slow days and
intermittent ways.. But, wait, sweet
music faint beguiles my soul! Hark, all
persons glad, melodies mix and hold out
their hands; with me! with me! - reach!
reach! far and wide, offer yourself as
willing sacrifice! We are so near to the
other side!

Leap with me into a future of possibilities
of various types, spring forth, sing,
walk, dance, run, crawl into your new
life of similarities to years gone by!
Sleep, gently, 2021; it's time to die,
tired year, your tears are recognized,
sleep well...

So, 2022, closer you strut into our lives!
Hurry! Bring your continuance so
lives can die, and Live! Cheers to the
Old Year, slaintѐ to the New!

Hush, everyone! The time has come! Five,
four, three, two, one!! Hurrah, hello,
yay, hurrah! hurrah! hurrah!!! Fresh days
to live, new months to behold, this will
be the best year ever!

Now, it's time, once more, open The New
Year, let it saunter in, previous personal
problems sit back and grin, soon to
sandpaper Life with sawdust-eyes.

The aging and benign, impressions shadows,
soon to pass the middle line, toppling
out, out, out onto today, stuck between
yesterday and tomorrow, just like last
Year, just like last year.. Just another
new New Year, again, only a new Year,
just.. another.. year..

.....let's all go home.

Each New Year is different and full of exciting and unknown possibilities.

Glad life got out of the way for just a while, so you could release this poetic gem for us all here on AD.

So glad to see you writing again and such a wonderful way to greet the new year, 2022. Also glad that, in spite of when you wrote it and "life got in the way," I'm pleased that you posted it because it reflects so much the way I feel. Life goes on regardless of all the ups and downs that happen to us. In my brief time on this earth, individual living circumstances have improved so greatly, that those of us in the 21st century eat like kings and queens did in 1900. We have a choice of fashion that is far beyond what those kings and queens could even imagine. Jet planes and high-speed motorcars rather than steamships and steam powered trains.

We have landed on the moon and are going back soon. I looking forward to what next year will bring, the year after that, and the year after that…

Very philosophical and rewarding to read.

A timely message, with some unique phrasing - "span handled days - "frazzled motes of consciousness - sandpaper life with sawdust-eyes." Nice to read you again. It's been many years. Hope you're well. Happy Holidays. r

Meant to post this in January, Life got in the way. Now it's the end of November, and, really, nothing has changed. Just another year. Like the next New Year will be...
