Covers On Repeat
We don’t lose when they leave, but the moment we plead,
For love is no bargain, no courtroom of need,
It isn’t a battle to prove what you’re worth,
Yet many call begging the fight to preserve.
If I must convince you to look and to see,
That vision was never a gift meant for me,
Regard moves in silence, but scorn has a sound,
Your chest knows the dagger before it is found.
The body will tell what the mind will defend,
The stomach turns sour, the muscles contend,
That isn’t affection, it’s poison in wait,
A slow-dripping venom disguised on your plate.
We don’t get ensnared by covers on repeat,
But by our agreement to kneel at their feet,
It’s easier to worship and play pretend,
But facing the truth, will free in the end.
So cease the explaining, the discounts, the chase,
Stop begging for space in a counterfeit place,
They can’t bear the weight of someone that real,
So don’t let their blindness define what you feel.
