It’s 6 o'clock in the morning
and I am just waiting for Joe
the sky is turning blue
and I'm just waiting for Joe
Joe comes here every morning
he sits on the patio
he’s black as the night before morning
and I’m just waiting for Joe
Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe
he's the smartest bird I know
there is nothing good or bad,
but thinking makes it so
I throw out corn for the birdies
and they all sing thanks to me
the nuthatch, sparrows and grackles
are happy to see that it’s me
but Joe he never says thank you
he always has to complain cussing me up a storm
and calling me bad names.
But I still like to see him
he honors me with his presence
he flies away when I wave
his language keeps me guessing
Joe is only a crow
but a crow is something great
a group of crows is a murder
a day of crows is a fate
Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe
he's the smartest bird I know
there is nothing good or bad,
but thinking makes it so
I won't crow too much about this one. In my hunting days, couldn't get within a mile unless I crawled on my belly under tall trees to sneak up on youngsters just out of the nest.
While visiting the Brookfield Zoo (Chicago) to see the gorilla at five or six, we were startled by a crow that whistled at us and said "Hi!"
