Once is not enough
twice can be too much
I only have one heart
I thought that I was smart
I thought that I was tough
But once is not enough
I waited for so long
sang every single song
I pinged to every pong
I dinged to every dong
never thought that it was wrong
no matter how we roughed
but I had to go along
because once is not enough
yesterday I lied
when you broke down and cried
I couldn't bear to hurt you
I lay down in the dirt too
you ran off in a huff
because once was not enough
tomorrow you'll be gone
I'll have to carry on
I'll have to huff and puff
I'll have to just pretend
that our love has no end
and sing all that same stuff
because once is not enough
Once is not enough
twice can be too much
I only have one heart
I thought that I was smart
I thought that I was tough
But once is not enough
I really like this one. Hope that it gets picked up and goes viral.
My younger brothers learned, though they yearned,
that once was not enough. And she left in a huff.
But fearful not of harm, they tried a second without alarm,
but the second was just fluff, and she was soon gone.
Out of the blue, a third one flew, and she was the charm.
This is a ripping tale. Loaded with a story for the guessing. I do appreciate these lyrics in the rhythmic harmony of the words themselves. But the meanings inside the lines are brimming with human condition. The coupled “Once is not enough/twice can be too much” leave the footprint of mystery I like to wonder about, rolling around in my mind the ‘no answer.’ That’s what song lyrics do for me, and it is flexing the curiosity muscle. Good mental flossing. Keep writing lyrics, you have a way with them. ~~ djl
