THE SPANISH INQUISITION BLUES lyrics
by JOEL SATTLER
No one expects the Spanish Inquisition
no one expects the armies of the Lord
No one expects Crusaders in the kitchen
no one expects the thundering Mongol horde
it doesn't matter what you learn
what you learn from history
history will always be
somewhat of a mystery
it always repeats itself
no matter what you learn
the Great Wall is a failure
and Rome it always burns
there are no better angels
angels of our nature
we fought the monsters for so long
that we became the monsters.
the Inquistion's always waiting
waiting in the wings
the torturers are reprobating
the choir begins to sing
the greatest trick God ever pulled
was the invention of the Devil
God himself knows very well
that He's beyond good or evil
so when the Spanish Inquistion
comes knocking the door
tell them that you're not at home
that's what the Holy Ghost is for
No one expects no one expects the Spanish Inquisition
no one expects no one expects the armies of the Lord
No one expects no one expects Crusaders in the kitchen
no one expects no one expects the thundering Mongol horde
you can never shut it down because
the Vandals took the handle

The Borderline Anti-Memory PastBook asks questions a diary does not ask and raises the questions to dialectics and answers them in a way a memory work does not answer questions.
I recall another melody that was as rousing, The Battle Hymn of the Republic.
