I got up in the middle of the night
and took a walk to the city of the dead
at the end of the corridor there was a light
I couldn't tell if it was blue or red
there was a gate
The man said what said you can come in or you can wait
you can come in but call me what you want
tell me what you need
I said I'm looking for a pal
who Made me bleed
I'm not mad or angry anymore
I just want to tell him who won the war
The gatekeeper said I can tell you for sure
your buddy by now he knows the score
The city of the dead was lit by the moon
in the background with a mournful tune
The dead were singing in their graves
About the land of the free and the home of the brave
the tombstones were like a poker hand
aces and eights the play of the damned
walking in the Necropolis
the night enveloping a stolen kiss
grief is the price we pay for love
illuminated by the stars above
we all live in the city of the dead
be alive as you can
before the book is read
soon we will be gone
a billion tears will be shed
the moving finger writes
and having writ moves on
and all your prayers and your wit
cannot wash out a word of it
I'm afraid these lyrics sound very much like and/or could also be interpreted as being tantamount to "plagiarism". Even if what little I have read of your work makes you out to be a gifted lyricist/musician, it's clear you are also motivated by ambition beyond your true capabilities... Sorry to be so drastic.
I think that a good line would be… I went walking in Necropolis. And, thinking that it would be a place where you could enter the gates, but could never leave because they shut tightly behind you. Like the Eagles in one of my favorites, Hotel California.
This song could be that great if the right band picked it up and performed it the way that the Eagles did. That prelude guitar melody that tells you what is coming is pure genius.
