(Children are incredibly resiliant creatures. It is astounding the amount of abuse they can survive. It is not the abuse that kills them - it is the thought of being unloved.
More than any program, centre, legislation, foundation, or commemorative week or day they need SOMEONE to prove to them that they are not unloved.
This is my promise to one such child. Do you know someone you could promise your love to?)
How do you repair a broken child?
What glue can bind the shattered heart?
What mortar holds the crumbling walls
Secure against Satan's poisonous dart?
What salve can comfort the battered soul?
What drops can sooth the fear filled eye?
What balm can still the trembling lips
Grieving for a world that's now a lie?
Whose heart breaks for this tiny child,
To drip the bonding blood of love?
Who holds tight this child for years to come,
While the walls again strengthen from above?
Whose soul is crushed for the comforting salve?
Whose tears flow free to flush the fear?
Whose soft words and soothing voice
Will rebuild their world year after year?
My heart breaks for you my child.
I'll hold you tight in my love enfurled.
I have tears enough from a soul that grieves,
And together we will build us a better world.

This is beautiful and heartfelt, DJ. I wonder how many adult survivors would do well to love themselves deeply even as you promise to love the abused child. So often the love we need can't be found "without" until it is found "within".

You are anoter activistic like poet.... I LOVE THAT! Styles are different but it does remind me of David Knight. Gotta love that. This truly bleeds human emotion and one that can pen this stuff is something else! Masterful! Looks like I have an author to catch up on!
This is beautiful D.J. Children love unconditionally. If an abuser could take one second to look into the eyes of a child and see the unconditional love and trust that shines through their souls...you would think that would be enough to make them want to get help.
So loving and so heart wrenching. It is true, it is not the abuse that kills them, it is the thought of being unloved. And that goes to show that we do survive on love. Splendid write!
