The hour hand points to twelve o’clock
The finger of suspicion points to the man in the dock.
I’m stumbling home blind drunk
Took a couple of falls – gravity sucks
I look like shit, I’m stinking like a skunk
My wife is standing at the door giving me the stinkeye
With one hand on her hip and a face like thunder.
I could tell the truth but I’m a guy
So I quickly compose a nice-sounding lie
But there’s no fooling you
I can see it in your eyes
You say, ‘If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck…’
My lying is Just Another Way to Die
I’m killing our relationship and my own dignity
You make me want to be a better man, honey,
I want to be a better father and husband.
You say it’s OK, you say it’s all right,
You lay me on the bed and turn off the light
You say you aren’t mad at me
But I know you’re not happy
‘Cause even in the dark
I can see it in your eyes.
I’m having flashbacks to when we said, ‘I do’
I'm remembering the future – déjà vu
I predict many happy moments because I love you.
There’s no disease without a cure
I’m going kick this habit of disappointing you.
Wandering through the desert, I met a man who wasn’t there
There was nothing else, except a snarling bear
I ran for dear life, trying to hide behind air
But I now understand the reason for my despair:
The fear of losing you is just too much to bear.
I’m the desert and the bear
I’m the man who wasn’t there.
