Loss:
sudden vacuum
on-rushing
the wrenching leaving
the unexpected
the senseless
the past times
the aloneness of it
the could I have done more
the could I have loved more
appreciated more
been there more
too much away
in some other mental state
now meaningless
amid sudden
realizations;
the could haves and didn'ts
the too late sorrows
the unresolves
the diminishments
the less thans
the summing up of lives
yours and the departed
the reeling back of time
its memories
the starknessces
riven
through
life's memories
the departed and yours
gone
with it the illusion
of having lived life separately
is too
gone
far.
I have experienced personal loss more than once over the past few months. I have also experienced that of which you "speak" in your verses. Thank you, Lonnie. Love and peace,
It can certainly suck the life out of you. But then, time should heal and eventually that hole that was left should be covered over and new experiences develop. I admire the the intensity with which you approached the subject.
Your love-ache widens into the mystery of all that is life.
Beautiful sad awareness. It seems like there is this small opening of time to put everything we have into a relationship, and then it so often closes and is gone, but the illusion too is that it is closed because once opened it never really does close, does it?
Blessings,
Christine
Responding as much to Jerry's comment as your fine poem, I think we reject the past too readily, put our 'mistakes' out of mind without understanding or adjusting, thereby repeating them - the 'out of sight, out of mind' syndrome which plagues societies and individuals down history. And yet life must be lived in the now, too. We can do both, not multi-tasking (which gives scant attention to too many things at once) but making it our business to set aside time for quiet, reflection, study ... for 'will power' ... long ago Arab thinkers described this as 'fascination' and pleasure (before Protestant Christians redefined it as dutiful grind) ... soon enough we'll have lived our lives too far.
The Commander and the Chief take on the rogue Deep State: the Gunfight at the UK Corral, missing Redcoats in the Nevada Triangle, and nuclear blackmail!
