Jealousy wrought by the hands of a stranger,
Holds leverage over any breath that my mouth may take from you.
It’s not within their hearts worth having,
But within the brutal gleam of another man’s eyes.
On all accounts, I should never forgive you for this.
Yet I flush at the thought of you…
I would forget my own name at the sound of your voice,
If it wasn’t my name itself that brought it to life.
I’m paralyzed again, trapped within your heavy gaze,
My own tongue too thick to chide the shame.
It’s only my defiance of you that is holding me together now.
But why are you still here?
Of all the hush that passes through us,
You still keep coming back for the silence.
Am I to believe that you are losing your own strength?
If your eyes briefly falter,
Will you too, crack like fragile glass?
I wonder…
Who will be the first to fail,
For surely, someone must do it soon.
You’re beginning to break away at the edges,
And I may seem to have all the patience in the world,
But in the absence of my courage.
Intense and moving piece as you struggle with the demons of love. Our hearts will bleed a long time before finally letting a failing love finally die. Well written and very moving.
