Poem Artwork

 First exchange

They sat across from another, strangers
in the café, she looked to her book
He looked around at others
their eyes met briefly

There was an innocence about him
She could not take her glances away
A curiousness enveloped her
as he too was curious about her

A flush colored her cheeks
as he gave her a soft smile
she looked down smiling
wondering what brought them together

He moved closer to her within reach
facing each other, the first exchange

If there is that "magic" in the first moments of the first encounter, it is a portent of a lovely time and hopefully a lasting relationship. Thank you, Carol. Love and best wishes,

My first exchange was glorious. she stood in her yard as I drove up. Her hands , resting in her blue jean back pockets, a white top with a blue print pattern. A smile that lit up the world as I approached. The most beautiful woman on earth she is. You have a talent for stating emotions graciously.

Stay well and keep writing

The same thing happened to me. There I was, all alone and trying not to stare, when Brad Pitt gave me that shy little glance… I was immediately smitten! Never mind. ;-)

Your poem evokes something that often happens in public places. Too bad most of us are shy to break the ice.

Everyone has said what I would express, but this is a wonderful way to meet and hopefully learn about someone. Innocent and charming.

I met my wife in college at the campus bookstore. We knew the first time we met Lilly. I think everyone here has a similar story.

Lily, you must have been in the bookstore where I met my husband 13 years ago. It was exactly like that. You captured the uncanniness of such an encounter superbly. Maybe this has happened to you? Good choice of Claire and Brad in "Meet Joe Black." Enjoyable page to read today. Thank you ~~ Diana

There is something about the excitement when two meet for the first time. Even if they have not been properly introduced, the "eyes" have it :)

Great as always

There's nothing like that first rush, wondering what he thinks but yet knowing he's interested. Pheromone city!

Love ya!

When I think of all the people that I have met in my life, each one
left me with something. Either a friendship, a piece of advice, a sharing of sorts...which is still true to this day. Thank You, Carol

After, "the exchange", brought, Love Smiles and Love Hunger, my eyes, mind, and soul are creating the story for these two. Elizabeth Barrett Browing said it all, How do I love thee, let me count the ways...I love thee with a love I seemed to lose...

I like the way you bring other authors to write the feeling you express!

Well done, my flower of a friend, your petals are moving the wind!

And many times we will never know the reason why we are brought together.
These first moments can be so fragile, but they can be of influence for the rest of our lifes.
