A Fateful Decision

The fires of youth have long subsided

Primal procreation, obedience fulfilled

Mission to nurture, rectitude instilled

The wind of freedom and love collided

Woe for the grief I put her through

She who gave herself to me

And I who promised so willingly

A narcissistic daemon coloured my view

For twenty years she has kept her vow

Advances made were met with shuns

Lovingly devoted to our four sons

Yet she’s never been as lonely, as I am now

I awoke this morning to discover my age

Twenty years on my wayward ride

And the wind of freedom has all but died

If only I could, if only she would, turn back the page

My heart was captured on occasions

During the years of my demise

But never subdued, as I realise

The original love would support no liaisons

Why has it occurred to me, so late in life?

Now past is the bounty of passion and youth

That my mind could not see that my heart held the truth

She I lamented should still be my wife

Your poem sounds rather mournful, David!

More fortunately for me, I stayed with and still love my bride of 44 years. what is saddest of all is that one of us must pass before the other.

Deeply honest, real, and very compelling are your verses and what they express, David. Love, peace, and best wishes to you,

Well, it shows here that you have been putting it all on the line, and giving it a real approach.

I HEAR YOU DAVID. BEING HUMAN, WE MAKE MISTAKES, SOME WORSE THAN OTHERS AND...IF FOR SOME REASON, THEY CANNOT BE MENDED...WE MOVE ON...HAVING GAINED THE WISDOM TO NEVER MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AGAIN. GOD BLESS YOU AND THANKS FOR SHARING, LOVE, JOYCE*HIS INSPIRATIONS

I will not preach to you, or tell you how to pick yourself up. I can't tell you how to instantly ease this suffering or pretend that I, or anyone else has it "All together". No one can tell you how to fix your heart or your life, the best we can do as fellow humans is say "Yes, I understand and I care." What I can do is tell you I can feel your pain and I'm so sorry you are suffering. And I can tell you that the low places are what forge our metal and shape our character. Hold on to who you have become and in doing so you will find who you are eventually meant to be. A fine and honest poem, deeply touching David.

David ..dear one..
..we've all been there..I dare to wager that almost every member, on this site alone, has been in writhing pain because of the 'daemons' that berate the unsuspecting 'ego' in us all..
You opened your soul..indeed you shine.. :)))
thank you for the profound trip into your Being.

Blessings

Sometimes, it's the way life seems to go, isn't it? But I also think that those "mistakes" aren't really mistakes....they're part of the "walk"...part of what helps us grow and learn. As for looking back....not good to go there, in my opinion...unless it's to learn from a past "mistake." Otherwise, what purpose does it serve?...none...we can't change any of it! Powerful and honest....beautiful work, David.

The sheer power and honesty of this confessional unnerves, David, in the best possible way; not only does it challenge me to think about my own deeds but it draws my admiration for its truth.

You have made me cry with the intense feelings of your lost love.
I have loved someone that I had hurt very badly, but that was when I was young and niave. Now I certainly would have done things differently. Live and learn I guess. Your poem hit me.

Ciao,
Ragno

This is such a brilliant poem, so powerful to read.
David, here's how I look at it ~ those mistakes we make, those stones to stumble on as we walk our path, I believe are just simply "the way".
Ever,
Christine

And that's the way life goes sometimes. WE don't realize what we have until it slips away! Beautifully penned, David! Very touching poety!

David, Look we all make mistakes, and some of us take longer to grow up and see what is really in front of us. Me, I finally saw that my marriage was the reason I was so unhappy...I am free now, and I am so glad to have my life back..I am now the person I always was inside.. You will get through this. I wish you lived closer I would give you a great big hug and some human warmth.

Don't lament, you cannot change anything, and personally, one should never go backwards, so march on strong warrior you will be stronger for it all..

Much peace, love and light,
Amber

If only I could, if only she would, turn back the page

We all have our terrible regrets in life, and this piece is a powerfully sad one.
