Rainy Night

Looked out my home office window a few nights ago. This is what I saw.

RAINY NIGHT

 

A rainy, chill night

Here in Manchester town.

The empty parking lot

Across the street

Looks shiny black

In the rain,

Obsidian, polished

Black as black

Reflecting light,

Like a Milky Way of stars.

Electrified stars,

Advertising stars,

Neon stars,

Street stars

Office stars

From someone

Putting in late hours

Working a deadline

Or cleaning after hours,

Not stars at all

But imaginings

On a wet, half frozen

Expanse

Of asphalt.

A very visual piece of writing, I like all the adjectives and phrases that describe the shining black surface, the mirror-like reflection, the light that prevents you from seeing what lies behind. Very nice!
