A bucket full of words that came to me in one of my more secluded moments whilst alone on the hills of my beloved Lake District.
AN ODE TO SURVIVAL
We humans think were really clever
Some men upon the moon we place
Do you really think well conquer space?
The oceans two thirds of our planet cover
Yet little do we know of life beneath the waves
The thunder rolls, the lightning crackles
as nature throws off all her shackles.
We have the high-tech. So we think.
The lasers, holograms, the modern kitchen sink
Yet within our tiny minds there's power untold to be defined.
If only we could learn to live with one another
Then all the creatures of this planet might say to one and all
"Hi Brother"
Creatures of the universe are we, it's just a shame that we can't see.
I feel that deep in outer space someone is watching the human race.
If a mess we make of it, pollution and the like.
Then who knows what we'll have to face?
Oh yes, we think we know it all. But little do we know.
In the universe so vast, for all we really know
our planets in a tank might be, as someone else's toys.
As we keep fish, so they keep planets to please their girls and boys
Then one day they do decide to give the tank a clean
The long glass tube towards the earth does move.
"A piece of dirt I do declare" and that's the END of us!
So to our senses we must haste if this is not to be our fate
Times running out We can't complain.
There's no one else to blame
We humans think we have such power and control, don't we? We usually end up with egg on our faces when we think ourselves 'so superior'... very good poem.
