Twilight Sleep
~
A night when all the earth is quiet
When troubles hide beyond the glen
Beyond the daytime's strife and riot
A poet dreams with silver pen
.
of green fields there, forever growing
peaceful streams forever flowing
memories on the night winds blowing
To take me back again
~
I long to find the peaceful hours
Where storms are spent, forever gone
I weary of the barren flowers
That bloom upon a barren lawn
.
weary too, of changing seasons
each in turn with cogent reasons
to justify deceitful treasons
To a cold and empty dawn
~
Regret has found a place in sorrow
Where pages from the past are torn
Today must die upon tomorrow
When sadness births another morn
.
with words can I turn back the pages
with only words, erase the wages
of discord heard in tempest rages
On morning light reborn
~
To summon worlds now past and gone
With only words then, can I weep
Regrets must dwell in words alone
Within senescent's mournful keep
.
beauty fades with summer's closing
yesterday in dreams reposing
weary words my heart disclosing
Take me to
a twilight sleep
