Have you heard about ‘An Act of Dog?’
It’s a two-year art project to call attention
To the fact that 5,500 innocent dogs a day
Are now being euthanized in our vast nation
Artist Mark Barone is now at work, painting 5,500 portraits
Of abandoned dogs, killed in America’s shelters and pounds
To raise awareness about their plight, and to promote adoption
When he is finished, in a museum, these paintings will be found
I just visited his website and made a small donation to his project
Viewing the portraits of these innocent dogs soon had me in tears
It also made me realize why some of us save canines on the street
The ones that we do rescue, are spared death row’s agony and fear
As I’m sadly penning this, several dogs are now fast asleep at my feet
Little Jack, old Mr. Trucker, and sweet Carrie, all given another chance
Lupita and her precious pups, Little Pooh, and recently, homeless Hank
At least I won’t find their portraits in his project, and for this, I give thanks
I also now give thanks for their wonderful companionship, love, and loyalty
I only wish that more people would join us to save some of the 5,500 per day

It will take Mark Barone two years to paint, what we now kill in just one day. Using Art for Social Change, he hopes to raise $20 Million, to be donated in its entirety, to No-Kill Shelters, Pet Rescue Groups, and towards Abandoned Pet Medical Needs, Spay and Neuter Costs, Pet Rehabilitation Programs, and most importantly,
Pet Adoption Marketing Campaigns.

I would like to add to this statement, "Saving a dog can help save a person from being loney, forgotten and stressed!" These are Gods animals we (humans) have dominian over them. It IS our responsibility to care for them and the love, loyalty and appreciation we get in return will be 100 times greater. Amen
