The King And I

True account of an evening spent with the future King of rock and roll. A wonderful concert, an exciting evening, an unforgetable memory.

I saw you in concert
And had to meet you

I went backstage
To ask for your autograph

I lingered too long
You didn't seem to mind

"How old are you," he asked
"Probably not old enough", I answered
 
I was a little shy...
You were a bit bold

"Will you go out with me?"
"Yes, I will" I answered in awe

"I'd love a cheeseburger and fries" he said
"I know just where to go' I replied

A late night dinner
At "Hamburger Heaven"

The food was wonderful
The conversation even better
And we flirted outrageously!

"Heartbreak Hotel" playing
On the jukebox so loud


Recognition of you
Amongst the diners
Almost causing a riot
And a stampede of female fans

The good night kiss
At my front door

Your velvet lips touching mine
Spoiling me forever for all others

The future King of Rock and Roll
So sweet, so young, not yet a star

A snapshot in time
That still brings
A smile to my face,
Special memories to my heart.

Great control in the delivery, Joy,
considering the subject and the occasion,
the dominant couplets flow almost matter-of-factly,
and the entire experience of two young people
with their careers ahead of them sharing
a happy, worthwhile experience.
This is fine indeed.

Oh, Joy, you did it! I have been wondering if I would ever hear the rest of the story. As the saying goes ("if you've done it, flaunt it", (not exactly quoted, I conveniently rearranged it). What a remarkable experience to remember! I enjoyed reliving it with you but I don't covet it :-). Keep up the great work. Marge and I are cheering for you, she temporarily by proxy but not for long.
