Poem Artwork

Whilst foreign law presents a wall

And alien barriers laugh and jeer

What’s ‘right’ bears no acknowledgement

To circumstances borne unclear

When status simply won’t conform

And standard boxes can’t be ticked

It makes me wonder, more than once

If I’m not somehow being tricked

Such antiquated legislation

That ties the hands for countless years

For all ‘location’s’ recompense

Red Tape would drive a man to tears

My civil freedom’s battle’s fought

In reams of mass quadruplicate

At snail’s pace each stage prepared

I wish they would elucidate

Meanwhile, I wait in halfway state

With mangled tether’s end in shreds

And dream of wandering pastures new

Where future fortune’s footstep treads.

Sometimes I feel like I am jammed against the wall with Ruan's mangled tether’s" forcing me to chew my way into the other side for a taste of what, at last, freedom looks and sounds like.

Red Tape would drive a man to tears

It sadly often has.

Got me thinking of Catch-22. It seems more and more that I find that of the three or four boxes I'm supposed to check for a certain item, none of them fits my circumstance. And I don't think I'm an anomaly, just someone like you… Caught up in red tape and play the waiting game until it's unraveled.

Red Tape, don't you know that that is the boon to all of mankind...we thrive on it, desire it and when we don't get it we go out and find more & newer forms of it...keeps us young, keeps us busy, keeps us complaining, what more can one say about the happiness that Red Tape & Waiting does bring to us...e

Humans (Earthians) have complicated life so much that the result is becoming evident as all heads for chaos... ...or so it seems. Thank you, Ruan. My empathy to you because I knnow that of which you write. Love and best wishes,

Take a swig of Beaujolais
Or Zinfandel or Cabernet
It won’t clear red tape or bureaucrats
It lets you know them from the rats.
