Twas the night before Christmas when I entered her home
It was cold, dark and dingy, she was there all alone
No tree glittered brightly - No cards in a line
And the tears on her face told a tale of decline.
Dispair spoke the loudest, with sorrow in spades
No visitors come to this home as it fades.
Where is the compassion? I asked of above...
Why is she so lonely and lacking in love?
I looked at her photos and the story they told
Of a long bygone era, now faded and old
She'd given her years to bestow love and care
But those who'd received it, all forgot she was here
I saw smiling faces all faded and gone
I saw a family too busy...and friends, all moved on.
The answer before me ...so brutally cast
Today's world will quickly leave love in the past
I felt all her pain and her grief, and I knew
She'd at last given up on a world that did too.
She sighed and I turned. She didn't know I was there
as she settled to muse in her living room chair
I sprinkled some gold dust to brighten her dreams
And I prayed to the Lord that she'd wake to new themes
Then I breathed a soft kiss on her sad little face
and wished her a new year of laughter and grace.
Reluctant to leave her, I tiptoed away
May God grant her peace, hope and love, that will stay.
Next year ...when I call in to see how she is
I'll hope that her world became much more than this.
A sad tale but with a sprinkling of festive Hope
for better times ahead..
I enjoyed this…a lot!
Best wishes,
