When our castle is our dungeon, filled with waves of toxic waste

When all we touch then radiates bad health and controlled taste

When all that matters is that screen… as worshipping it, devout

…the thing becomes a lifeline which, we fear a day without.

When every day becomes deluged with lies and fear abound

Distractions/tales, are spoon-fed into every single sound

Our thoughts and dreams, no longer ours, but spells, all cast to bind

Adhere each individual to one force-fed state of mind…

Believing all that emanates from each and every source

 - provided by ‘those monitors’… (‘’fortuitous’’ facts, of course).

Meanwhile, in each familiar cell, our souls are thus interred,

Hooked up to vast machinery, recording every word.

Whilst all around us, gifts and gadgets hide beneath their paint.

Each one, carefully engineered to emanate and taint.

Thus weakened and debilitated…crushed and trodden down

The soul no longer strong and proud, its smile became a frown

A bitter frown of discontent no gadgets could appease

And so, the freedom once enjoyed, was cut away with ease.

"The latest this – the latest that", was all it took to acquire

…control of every move we make – implanting false desire.

But if we look once more to intuition, common sense,

We’ll surely see these prison walls as just a fragile fence.

The ‘’lectric locks’ mere visions (sold to deafen and to blind)

These thwarted; we can all reclaim a solid state of mind.

So, throw off fabled shackles – Unplug from deathly grid

Shine light on sickly shadows, where the ‘coils of doom’ are hid

Seek windows of reality and all that Nature’s sown

Reach out and ‘touch the tangible’ our souls have always known.

Eyes up!

It’s time to smell the coffee…and the roses too

This planet’s not a toyshop – It’s our homeland through and through.

Replace the plastic images with living, breathing souls.

Interact and share the joys of building real-life goals.

Remember all our minds forgot to think, absorb, and feel.

Recall that sense of freedom when we celebrate what’s real.

 Reviews of "The Grid"

You paint a dismal picture of the world we are living in. But thankfully, near the end tell us the way out of the dilemma facing those who are tied to the grid by their screens.

For me the grid is a mixed blessing. I welcome it, but despise what it does to people and to our planet when we build such riffs between us in the process and can look the other way, not seeing the destruction for real.

As I became more paralyzed, I had to rely on technology more. For example, about 1998 I could no longer write either cursive or architectural lettering anymore, even though I had been able to keep secretaries busy with my architectural lettering. I can only type with one finger so typing was very slow until I got IBM Via Voice and wrote my second novel using the technology in 2001, followed by 13 others only possible, like this comment, by an array microphone and this screen that I'm so dependent upon. The air-conditioning and natural gas heat that keeps me warm and cool when necessary and the temperature gets beyond my body to control.

Both my professional and avocational career has been enhanced by high technology. I've even driven two highly modified vans, thanks to state funding that were more like flying a plane then driving a car for 165,000 miles over 19 years of extended ability to interact with people as a result.

Like you, I constantly warn about what we are doing to our earth as we move into new areas of technology without a thought of the consequences. Alex is right. Living off the grid is terribly difficult and actually isolates people from others. And it's destructive to the planet like preppers who foolishly think they can outlast major cataclysms by merely storing stuff. The answer is more efficient cities that do not rely on fossil fuels. It is as simple as that. we need to return farmland to wilderness and stop overfishing that over harvesting wild resources.

Still Living on my Feet by Tichaona Chinyelu

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
