Child grows up without a home
Family, torn far apart
Life unbalanced, soul adrift
Handicapped right from the start
Goes out into a big wide world
Seeks all that failed be repaired
Has not been taught what’s fair and just
Can only guess from what’s declared
Encounters harsh distorted love
Commits to cold and callous charm
Fails to see the shadows cast
By those who aim to cause them harm
Muted misery then ensues
They know that something’s very wrong
But past reflection is no guide
The examples there do not belong
No sense of ‘kin’ to raise support
No base from which to launch anew
No place to rest and start afresh
The options here are faint and few
Lost, alone, they test each path
Blindly reaching out to heal
The battered soul is burned again
Repeatedly the cycles reel
Until at last they barricade
Behind a firmly bolted door
An introspect may now emerge
Where no-mans-land can reassure
Looking back, from calmer seas
At logic written in the sands
‘’One cannot build a sturdy boat
With broken tools and faulty plans’’.
It's really tough to have a bad start in life that can even become generational.
