Just a bit of fun - life was getting too serious

Poem Artwork

Dahlin McQuey, went out to tea with Robert McGee and the vicar.

Ruby Tresize fluttered her eyes

as she served Dahlin’s cream that much thicker

Robert McGee tittered with glee, causing the  vicar to splutter.

Then before he could sup, he upset his cup

all over Tom’s brown bread and butter

Thomas Malone, let out a moan, his mackerel alone on the table.

In rushed a maid, with new platter arrayed.

Her nametag said her name was Mabel.

Robert McGee introduced she and Thomas Malone, with a grin.

Curiosity welled, as the two of them jelled,

And they whispered in corners therein.

Mabel Rae-Strong, strung Tom along, as she laughed at his banter and jokes.

But when he took to one knee, she jumped up to flee,

declaring his coax was a hoax.

The vicar, nonplussed, fluttered and fussed, his duty called hither to calm.

Then Dhalin and he, and Robert McGee

Comforted Mabel with psalms

Ruby Tresize picked up her pies and wafted them under their noses.

The green in her eyes was set on her prize,

‘Her Dahlin’ had promised her roses!

Mabel reclined, with foot ‘misaligned’, and the pies all went up in the air.

Then landed with glee on the heads of the three

Whilst the vicar sought ‘solace of chair’.

When all quietened down, with no trace of a frown, the vicar called out for ‘'more tea’'.

Dahlin’s blue eyes shone on Ruby Tresize

Leaving Mabel with Robert McGee

Thomas Malone had wandered off home, his heartstrings all torn and in tatters.

He vowed for a week, that he never would seek

his new love from a maiden with platters.

You must've taken a long time to come up with this delightful tea time tryst of sorts. Loving every line I gobbled it up with the tea washing it down before the tea got cold. This one is never old. At teatime every day I will be one more just to perk me up for the day at hand.

Loverly, simply loverly.

Your perky lines have the right lilt and punch, but they make for much disentanglement in the mind owing to the names of the players and their sumptuous roles. A fine skit that could fill in the intervals during a tragi-comic long-drawn out theatre play. Your words maintain a musical ditty sufficient in itself. Kudos! TW

Still Living on my Feet by Tichaona Chinyelu

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
