The Stagnant Heart
The stagnant heart stopped beating
The ticking clock was forever stilled
Placed on a dusty shelf the heart drew no attention
Locked away in a sullen room
A leak in the roof was a cause for rust
Or perhaps it was the teardrops of angels that caused the sad demise
But that beating
That life brought to a halt
All he had to do was say he was sorry
All she had to do was pick up the phone
But in a rush of madness two became one was no more
For those unanswered calls
Those two words unspoken
Brought a man to his knees as his gun was still smoldering
And Bam!
As word got around to her she could take no more
"Why didn't I answer the call?" She cried
But there was no one there
No one cared for her as he had
She was stranded on a barren island of grief and guilt
And so she cried hard and died daily
Until one day her heart stilled
And that room
That darkened room became aglow lit up by a single candle
As her heart was placed beside his
Together they would forever be trapped in time, unkept time
The clock kept watch over them but never spoke a word
The candle placed there burnt out and the drippings hardened as our heads often do
Why can't we say what we need to say?
Why won't we answer that call?
What will it take for us to see that love is worth the pain?
Or is it?
Perhaps one day my broken heart will have the answer
But for now I leave you with these two
Trapped forever in longing
A distance as wide as an ocean between them
And yet to die in such a horrid way
Love now
Live now
For time is too precious to wait
