I had a lot of fun doing this one with Regis. (Thanks again, Regis!)
I love to write. Here in this quaint caf�. It's pleasant to pause and watch people. But who's this across the puddle of blurred faces? Can it really be her? My heart feels faint! How long has it been; months, years, another lifetime? Back whenever in that fragment of existence on the edge of a July; we were slaves of time and circumstance. We were not permitted to fulfill friendship. How many tears have I cried? How many deaths have I died thinking of her, aching from her absence? Is that him across this crowded cafe? I never thought him to be a coffee drinker. I squint my eyes and peer closer at his jawline. It is the same chiseled masterpiece I used to daydream about running my fingers across, A glimpse of his eyes reassures me that I am correct Even from this distance I can tell they are the same grey-green beauties I used to get lost in Suddenly my breath is caught in my throat and my heart feels as if it may just jump out of my chest. I can't believe it's him, after all these years. I hope he hasn't seen me, looking all a mess. It is her! As radiant a goddess as ever. She does not see me. Should I pretend that I do not; let time and circumstance enslave us once again? Time has treated him well, I see. I have often dreamt of finding him once again Not even in my visions was he this stunning Old feelings resurface and I can feel myself going under The girlish little crush I had on him all those years ago Is now replaced by an adult yearning And I can feel it tugging at me, pulling me in his direction Dare I journey over there? There are not that many steps to take But it feels like miles are between us. I would feel braver if walking on a tightrope. I cannot move, I can barely even breathe. Adoration so strong, Frightens me to my core. Strange to know that I have never loved anyone more, And yet, I've never even touched his lips I long to venture over there and greet him with a hug, Anything just to touch him. But how can I presume he would even remember me? Surely, he never felt the same for me. He would have made a move. I better look away before he feels my eyes on him. No! Not this time, Time! Not a chance, Circumstance! Someone else can finish this. I�m going to her... I watched him walk away from me once before. It took years to numb the pain, And now that the open wound is just a scar, I can't take the chance of having it re-opened. Oh, how I would love to walk over there and see his eyes beam with recognition, But I can't take the chance of seeing puzzlement instead. I would rather pretend that he thinks of me from time to time as well, Than to take the chance of knowing that he doesn't. He's getting up... I'm walking away... left the money on the table and now I'm vanishing. Don't look back I can feel the tears welling up. Is he calling my name? Don't look back, it's probably all in my head. Regis and Crystal, this is WONDERFUL! I *HATED* the ending! You have to do a follow-up ... Now, she's in the parking lot, fumbling for her keys... she hears the cafe door swing open, turns to look and... his eyes are LOCKED on hers! "Marie? Is that YOU?! My God, you look so beautiful! How long has it been? I'm sorry, I just CAN'T let time and circumstance steal you from me again! Maybe you don't feel the same way, but... I *had* to let you know that, so many times, I longed to approach you, but I feared you were out of my league." Tears fill their eyes as they embrace; the world disappears as they kiss. Jeff
