Ecstatic Poetry
Monarch butterflies dance around each other in dainty playful circles I watch enrapt they only exist for a few weeks but their brief lives are saturated with such sheer joy and captivating beauty One elegant butterfly glides close as if to kiss my cheek perhaps responding to my musings and then perches on wild golden milkweed blossoms breastfed nectar from Mother Earth The plot of forest across the street from my abode is virtually a sanctuary I laugh aloud as the delightful creatures alight on the petals of my heart anointing the splendor of the moment

Wonderfully related. I remember them plentiful in my childhood, gathered around milkweed and sipping on Canada thistle.

We don't have them in my backyard although many fly through Texas. I am glad to see black swallowtail here and the gorgeous giant swallowtail, along with some monarch imitators to ward off predators.
