Read Me A poem
It was late December, in the morning,
time to set my work away.
The children had to see a councelor
nothing serious with them today
This time shall be their dads turn
to drive them off to town.
We walked into the doctors place,
not many souls around
The children slid off, to a side room,
because all they needed to was to talk.
I sat down in a padded chair,
relaxed, then made it rock.
A little child stood, within the room,
very quiet and alone.
I softly asked him for his name,
then gave to him my own.
I asked if he thought of Christmas,
and the things he'd like to get .
Like all children their list is long,
Santa surely won't forget
After we talked awhile,
there was a quiet in the room.
I picked up all my poetry,
like the sweeping of a broom.
He asked what I was doing,
I said writing of some poems.
He asked if I would read him one,
with politness and soft tone.
So I read him one and then another,
he asked for a couple more.
And when I finished reading them,
I walked him to the door.
He turned to me and asked,
if I'd give a poem or two.
His brother lived far away,
he'd love to hear them too.
So I gave him of my Christmas lines,
fitting to his delight.
He said he would be sitting down,
as he wanted to rewrite,
So his brother knew that he had written,
from a brother far far away.
For that child that was so friendly,
had just turned six to day.
