I am a negro I say it with pride I cannot my colour hide its radiant blackness does glow. I am tropically designed, and from taunts I am resigned. I love my natural label, it rings my pride like a bell. My frame is black and lovely, I am feminine and curvy. My rare Baartman's curves are awesome, despite my colour being 'loathsome.' My labour in the scorching field was worth a trans-Atlantic risk. I enriched the west with my yield. My hard labour did slip my disc. I am Africa's black gold, and on this heritage I hold. I am black and proudly so, that is who I am, a negro!!
Stated with pride and with a sense of truth… "I am tropically designed" as well as a willingness to accept the ignorant classifications that come from those who calculate superiority and difference from past indiscretions rather than facing the truth that is known.
All of us Homo sapiens came out of Africa. And since we were "tropically designed" were probably dark of skin. But as we left Africa and moved into more challenging environments where part of the year was without sunlight we lost melatonin to the skin and had to devise technologies to maintain food and warmth through harsh winters. Isolated populations developed isolated characteristics, driven by the circumstances of survival and reproduction with the strongest, and sometimes brutalist, surviving. While all other hominids like Neanderthal, either died out or merged with us.
As much as you have pride in your heritage and I have in mine, I hope the future will have a solid understanding that we are of one race, the human race, and we have, individually, different characteristics, intelligence and skill that we bring to the table. We will all have to work together so the mounting problems that have been created from the time of colonialism and industrialization destroying our earth as we tried to get ahead. We must preserve Africa for the animals as well as humans if we are to survive as a planet.
