Translation by T. Wignesan - August 14, 2023 - as a tribute to the duo who poured their hearts out during an informal studio recording on June 6, 2023 and as an homage to Florent PAGNY who first made a solo of this song in 2000 and has since recovered from a LIVE-THREATERNING lung-cancer ailment in Patagonia where he resides happily now with his young and beautiful Chilean wife.
[Carlos Bousono, the eminent Spanish aesthetician, used to reiterate in his classes that if one listened to a song one loves very much, over and over again, it'll ultimately lose its appeal to the audience. (He must have been thinking of women - not songs.) I know of no song one could listen to - without getting tired of it - as this informal studio recording by the duo.]

Well, in that case, let me oust you out of the dedication, Monseigneur ! Not just I but every able-bodied Man must have thought you were the guy to rely on to put "women" in their proper places - Alas !!!
What d'you mean Pagny and Maé were surrounded by a bevy of bombshells: if they were "belles", they could ONLY be French - savvy ?
Now, I made it very plain that the guys were belting out their threnody in an informal studio recording - unshaved, with no makeup besides. Just copy and paste the URL on to your browser to hit the recording I was talking about. Why ? Because Christophe Maé added his wailing soul-bashing harmonica to this performance. Not to be missed. The harmonica makes ALL the difference... Hurry. Best. TW

Beautiful words. Both while sung by those two talented men and from your translation of the lyrics. The version I saw had photos of many beautiful (French?) women in beautiful tranquil settings, many of them near water.
