This poem was written to honor my mother-in-law who passed on 3/7/2005.

Ode to Princess Aurora

Princess Aurora, born at the turn of the century in a humble but loving abode to a couple very much in love.  She, a gentle, lovely doe-eye damsel.  He, a seafaring rascal, oblivious to all treacherous and harmful.

Robbed at an early age of a mother's love by the arch-enemy death and of a Father by the treacherous Lorelei, sea-dwelling femme fatale, Princess Aurora quickly learned to live and adapt, allowing nothing to dampen her spirits and morale.

At sweet sixteen, sailed one of the seven  seas to live in a land full of promises and liberty.  Together with her sweet sibling Seraphim, Princess Aurora alighted upon the asphalt jungle with its wild new scenes.

By nineteen, Princess Aurora met the man of her dreams and with Prince Charming settled by the turbulent Babylon streams.  There they met, there they wed, and there she made her thorny bed.  There she promised to love, obey, until death.

Along came three little Princes, who would become warrior protectors of the honor of the Princess Aurora.  Joy and much love, the three little Princes--Wisest, Brave, and Prayerful--added to the Princess's aura.

An integral part of Princess Aurora's life, Seraphim had always been.  But he had become lost in his own world, drinking strong ale, enamored of life, wine and song.  He to Princess Aurora much grieve and pain would bring.

At the same time that the double thorn of Seraphim and Prince Charming pricked Princess Aurora's life, the young warrior's muscles began to flex and test against the "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" of Prince Charming's likes.

From violent threats and vile words, Princess Aurora sought some rest.  But neither harangues, reviling, biting words, nor threats could her love of the Prince from her chest wrest as a later funeral service did attest.

Winds of change and time brought calmness to much-battered lives.  Lives now would be lived to the full, time to nurture the self, time to groom the three warriors--Joe, John, and Daven.

Life settled to a pleasant droning of time, seasons coming and going by and by.  No more turmoil, life just passing by--Princess Aurora has now become content, ruling the ruse to the fullest extent.

"My, how my little ones have grown.  Now, little warriors and tiny princesses my court adorn.  Even my Seraphim, still the same, has pierced through with a dagger his drinking demons in a blast of anger."

The singing fairy enters, all regal and enchantingly beautiful in her reigning regalia, followed by the early morning glories in their celestial karma.  Princess Aurora dons her mask of gold to greet her court looking like a bright dahlia.

Reigning years come and go and autumn slips by--gone where no one knows.  Winter soon appears and all is cold and bare.  Teeth chatter from the coldness of time's winter as Princess Aurora begins to feel the blast of time and its despairs.

Life's coming quickly, too fast to halt and trap, and getting too old to care.  Days turn to weeks, weeks turn to months, and months turn to years unaware.  Years become decades and decades come too quickly until none are there.

Life has become a royal grand pain.  Eyes have become dim from the veil of time worn too thin.  Seraphim, my brother, why can't I find you?  Where have you been?  Will someone please help me find him.

Who's that crazy woman staring at me?  Don't know her name.  She might need help or perhaps wishes to harm me.  Oh, my God, why does this fog emcopass me?  Perhaps, I need to scurry and hide under my bedsheets!

Pain, pain everywhere!  Please, take the pain away from me!  It hurts but I cannot tell why, when, or where.  Please take me home and set me free!

Where's my Seraphim?  Why hasn't he come to see me?  Where are my warriors, Joe, John, and Daven?  Are they not coming for me?  I wait and struggle to remain awake.  I see Daven, but the rest I do not see.  Have they forgotten me?

Princess Aurora!  It's time to go home.  Come, it's time to hide for a little while--until tomorrow.  Tarry not and follow the light to the eternal path where there's no more pain, no more sadness, and no more sorrow.

Don't struggle and don't fight!  It's time, Little Princess, for you to rest and bide your time in warm and peaceful light.  Time to wait patiently on your Prince and King to beckon to you and your loved ones to come forward to bear the image of the heavenly ones!

Elena, this is a real deep poem with some truly great imagery and so wonderfully done. You write with such powerful emotion, it's obvious that you put your heart and soul into your work. The words reached out to me and touched me in so many ways, bringing up emotions I have tried to overcome over the years with the loss of my mother. This poem is so very touching and meaningful, you took my breath away. Every so often, an author/poet comes along and inspires the world through their writing. You are one of them. You are gifted in so many ways and I truly love your work!
