Fly Away!

Empty nest syndrome? I think not.

I love my kids; don’t get me wrong.

I’ve wiped their noses, sang them songs;

But what’s it mean when they are grown

Allergic to being on their own?

I’ve tucked them in.  Kissed boo-boos too.

Changed diapers, cooked, and nursed the flu.

Played Chutes and Ladders and Candy Land;

Wiped grape jelly from little hands.

So, tell me now, was I confused?

I did my time. Paid my dues!

Why, now that they have learned to fly

They’re flying back!  Please tell me WHY?

I have a nice and cozy home.

My little nest is all my own.

Looking forward to quiet time.

Time to think.  Expand my mind.

But NOOOOOO!  Not me!  This Mama’s stuck.

Bogged down, quagmired, hip deep in muck!

There’s smelly socks and underwear,

Crumbs on my sofa, sauce in my chair!

Empty glasses, cups and plates,

Strewn about like they own the place.

Intelligent, young men I’ve made.

Why now my nest they re-invade?

I taught them how to drive, to cook,

To clean their room and read a book

To wash their clothes, put toys away.

Please tell me, Lord, why do they stay!

Their own money they are making,

Their own chances they’re now taking.

To face the world, they are now ready.

Face forward sons!  Onward, now! Steady!

Buy your own food and gas and lights.

Pay rent, insurance, reach new heights!

I know you’re capable; yes it’s true .

I only say it ‘cause I love you.

Once of the most loving things a parent can do for their adult children is let them make it on their own. And the sooner the better. Too many adults living in one household isn't good. I know from experience. Go ahead momma bird, point your big birds towards the beautiful world and shout fly fly fly. Good luck

I love this! Aside from the natural flow of this, it hit home for me. You laced this with humor and put it right out there. This is a real keeper. Every mother should print this and frame it!
Welcome to the den!

Could be that they are searching for something which went missing in their lives and ar ejust now trying to understand and come to terms with it. What that lost something, or someone is, ah, that is the question. LOL Don't grin and bear it, kick 'em out!!! Easy for me to say, huh?
