As we get older...we see things more clearly and I believe our minds are more prone to accept what our hearts cannot...

 Melancholy Chains

By: Felix Perry

I collect all my hurting tears at sundown

Save them in a green-hued Mason jar

Placed on the ledge beside my window

Waiting for my returning, distant star

No, I won’t cry when the sun is smiling

Don’t want no one to know my true pain

Each day, I paint a smile on like it’s make-up

That will blend in even if it starts to rain

I know my days are swiftly running down

I can see the writing clearly on the wall

And as they also say…I’m not afraid to die

My heart watched too much love rise and fall

I’ll close my eyes once more tonight

But I’ll toss and turn till morning light

I didn’t give up, I just accepted my own fate

That it is what it is, be it wrong or right…

I don't know about you, Felix, but all these memories keep flooding back to me and with them, melancholy. I suppose it's so we can finally deal with the last of our shadows so we can leave this earth unencumbered. Its a wise man who accepts his his mortality yet lives each remaining day with passion. Could always expect tjat from Felix Perry. Be well.

I think it is a sign of wisdom that once realize and accepts one's fate, it's like accepting yourself and who you are. Well done and ditto what Audrine wrote.

Yes... I have become intimate with the theme that you share through your verses here, Fee. I often smile on the outside while drowning in tears on the inside... And the older I get, I find time seems to be speeding up as I understand less and less of this world/life. Love, peace, and best wishes to you,

Regis (Reg) 🙏🌳🍁

I suppose to be melancholy is to feel pain. But in my case, it is from a sense of melancholy that I am able to witness the beauty and joy that surrounds me.

I hope there are some good times to be had in between,
when the hurting subsides somewhat…
I hope older age still contains some little unexpected
gems that warm your Heart…

Cheer up Felix because earth is only a brief vapor mist and then we go to the real reality and awaiting profound love. You had and have a major purpose here on earth to touch the lives of others that they may see the love within and from God

A very exquisite and beautifully written testament of what it's like to grow old and find that those you counted on are also disappearing all around leaving a lingering melancholy for most.

You and I share the idea of putting on a good face and smiling rather than turning into grumpy old men. And most of all, welcoming what is coming because we are ready.

Ron
