Hey Girl,
You have said it all! AMEN!
Thanks so much for re-affirming and validating my sentiments.
I am e-mailing this poem to every woman I know to re-affirm that it is OK to be single and not have kids if you haven't met the one.
Statistically we can't all be paired so there will always be single people. Life changes , partners pass on,to another life or another woman/man whatever the case may be.It's very important to honour yourself enough not to be a victim of society.Great write Sista.

Very eloquently put... as always. I wouldn't expect anything less than excellent from Sandie! Philip
amen. this is a mantra, and there are many who can take something from this, i think, both men and women who are in dependent relationships. the more i read of you, the more i am gladened by your perceptiveness and ability to express the simple truths of life that seem to pass most of us by.

You are so on with this! We are conditioned to think we need another "body" to make us whole, but that is so far from the truth it is sad! You've "showed" that in this write!
You mirror my sentiments exactly. Great job on this Sandra and thank you for the well wishes. Alone is not the same thing as lonely as you so boldly pointed out.
Take care,
Sherry
The voice is true and the words ring. Soft mind triggers, places to escape, society plays a role in the view expected, but the writer sees
all that is available and feels the words chews them and spews them out. In this poem you create theory and response and do it in a manner that is pleasant and biting all at the same time... Nicely done. Walt
Sandie, your last verse sums it all up in majestic fashion!
Your feelings leave no doubts of your intents and they
are all first rate, as far as I'm concerned. If more women
realized these truths there would be less heartache in the world!
GREAT POEM, Sandie! Well-constructed, well-written and brilliantly conceived; I just love the different tones and registers in this to make all your very salient points in ways that impact and resound to their fullest. But, have to say, I am also very much enjoying the reviews and FASCINATED by the boy/girl divide here, which, in all my 15 months at the Den, I have rarely seen displayed so tangibly. You have uncovered the DIFFERING attitudes to partnership and sex across the male/female divide when, as poets, many treatments of this material tend to blend us all to sky-blue-pinkiness, showing where we merge on the matter rather than diverge. Don't you just LOVE Nordette?! She is so damned right all the time! Anyway, your healthy self-esteem and self-awareness shine brilliantly throughout this poem and should be compulsory reading for all girls of whatever age - and I count myself (delusional that I am!) as one of them... Way To Go indeed! Rockin! TY for this much-needed write and I shall return to keep tabs on the most intriguing debate and response... a page today to take note of for all sorts of reasons!! :)) LOL Kate xx
You nailed it for me, Sandra. But then I think my real friends know better than to tell me that I'm alone. LOL. However, I do have a lot of people who seem to think it's imperative that I find a new mate. Keep telling me that I'm still too hurt from the divorce and that's why I'm not on a man hunt. Ugh! They just don't know. I expect the right one to spend time catching me, not the other way around. Why hunt down trouble? ;-) And if he never comes looking for me, then I'm still good. Way good! As for Ed's comment, um. While I don't believe in casual sex and toys do lack the appropriate warmth, you really don't have to have a permanent male fixture to get laid. The thing of it is, sometimes getting laid is more trouble than it's worth if you've got to put up with a jackass, and so often you don't know a man's a jackass until he starts screaming, "Call my name, baby! Call my name!" Come on, let's get real. If you're sticky sweet good, I don't need a prompt to call your damned name. Obviously, I liked this poem.
The use of differing Rhyme schemes and meters make this a Jazz riff. I can hear a jubilant Ellington or pensive Mingus playing it. Well done.

Ed, Ed, Ed, you forget about the toys. There is also such a thing as taking things in hand. Self-love is perfect love. Of course it is hard to snuggle up to self, but then when you are alone, you have the option of making connections wherever the hell you want to, be it the local saloon or the church picnic. Enjoyed your well-done poem.
