Selfish
by Mocha Sistah

Sorry, this time.
I have to be selfish.
Tell you no.
Tell me yes.
Cause I'm tired.
and I'm nobody's lovely robot.
Looking at my soul
through the mirror of yesterday's
glow, I see no smile.
Though it's not a bad thing.
Somedays rain drowns my soul.
Somedays, I sing love lullabies
holding my pillow thinking of the
anonymous he that God must
be preparing me for but today ---
i feel slightly off beat
no song in my soul
no vocalizing of lovely things
soul is tired of pretending
i'm super woman
and my cap is all torn from
unrealistic things that I just can't be
my soul is breakable
and i do get tired
cause i need to feed me
my own time
redefine
thyself
give myself cups of green tea
and muse on my rest and relaxation
turn off the damn phone
and off this internet
cause I need to feed me
relaxation
let myself get a little nappy
watch a little oprah
and chill out
let myself breathe
without worrying about who
needs me
to do what
i need to take a chill pill
and let it sit under my blue
tongue
because it's time for me to
be alone
and embrace the unbreakable time
that has been begging me to set
it free
so right now, i need for you
to understand this wall of silence
has nothing to do with you
but me trying to get a handle on things
and know that I will call you or email you
or connect with you whenever this time of hiatus is over
but right now, in this moment
i must respect my ability to be selfish
to take my alone time
and let myself marinate in the serene quiet moment that will help me learn
to rebreathe this life's air

Pamela,
Everybody needs a break every now and then. Rest can be great nourishment for the soul.
