I have a friend
who’s polished
she looks great
always
the lipstick goes on
first thing
my daughter says
she wears old lady clothes
bright or muted
striped or print
polished
accessories
gross
me
I pick clothes up off the floor
I dig through the piles in the laundry room
I’m constantly picking dog hairs
a wrinkled dirty mess
unpolished
hair a mind of it’s own
skin a wreck
teeth brown
stink probably
and when I stand next to her
I notice I stand a little straighter
I notice I forgot my eyeliner
and yet
for all of that
I like me better
unpolished
I like that I shop at rave
and I like jeans best
I like that I wear too young clothes
and play with my dogs
furgeddaboutit
polished is as polished does
and there aint a polished bone
in this body
rough and tumble
unpolished
a gem
in the rough
it would be nice though
if every now and then
I put some lips on
It is the raw unpolished gem with the most power. You know what you'll see when you wake up in the morning and that ain't bad at all. Good bit of fun in this. Gregg
